Discharge Instructions Removal of Lipoma

You just had a procedure to remove a lipoma, a growth of fatty cells. It will be examined and your  will call or write you with the results.  After surgery, be sure to have an adult drive you home and to follow the guidelines on this sheet. Make a follow-up appointment as directed by our staff.

Activity

  • After the procedure, take it easy for the rest of the day. Slowly increase your activity.

  • If you had general anesthesia, don't use machinery or power tools, drink alcohol, or make any major decisions for at least the first  24  hours.

  • No pushing, pulling or straining to avoid injury to the area.

  • You may take a shower in 24 hours.

 

 

When to Call Your Doctor

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the following:

  • Increased bleeding or drainage from your incision.

  • Swelling, redness or opening of your incision.

  • Red streaks from your incision.

  • Chills or fever over 101°F by mouth.

  • Foul-smelling discharge from the incision.

  • Pain not relieved by pain medications.

  • Any new problems or concerns.
